Joan McGivney

A Toronto ON native, Joan has an honours degree in Fine Arts from the University of Toronto 1971. After this, a teaching degree lead to a 32 year career as a high school Visual Arts teacher., and as Department Head of Visual arts , and then Arts and Technology for 22 years at Michael Power St. Joseph High School in Toronto.

During her early years in teaching, she painted large acrylic stains and had several art shows; her last in 1982 while pregnant with her first son.
With a family and working full time, Joan found little time to paint until retiring in 2004..Since then, she has been painting mainly in oils, both landscapes
the human form .Her style is realistic for the most part with some forays into abstraction. She has been in several group shows and has joined and exhibited with : The Bayview Art Tour, The North Toronto Group of Artists ,
The Scarborough Arts Guild., The North York Visual Artists ,The Queen West Art Crawl., and Artify.
She is Vice President of the North York Visual Artists and Show Committee Chair for the North Toronto Group of Artists.
In April, 2007, she was featured in a solo show at The Faculty Club,U of T
In Dec. 2009, she had a solo show at Dukem Restaurant in Toronto.
Joan also teaches workshops through the Artist’s Garden Cooperative.
Joan’s work is in many private collections.
